Personal branding photography is a type of photography that captures your unique brand identity. The main difference between personal branding photography and regular photography is the focus on your brand identity. Each branding session is strategically planned to make sure that you are getting the exact photos that you need for your business.

The length of a personal branding photography session can vary depending on your needs and preferences. Typically, for a headshot refresh with one or two outfits, one hour will be sufficient. For an update to add new photos/video content to your content library, two hours should do the trick. For a full branding shoot that will result in 6 to 12 months of usable content you will want to book at least 3 hours. We can chat to discuss what you need and the proper timing so that you can decide how many hours is best to meet your goal for the session.

When it comes to what to wear for your session, I recommend dressing in a way that represents your brand and makes you feel confident. Solid colors and simple patterns work best. I also recommend avoiding busy patterns or logos that can be distracting. Layering is a great way to get more variety in your photos. For example, if you are wearing black jeans with a white long sleeved top you could do a set in that, then put on a vest and a hat and do another scene, then put on a blazer and different jewelry in yet another scene – all taking just minutes to switch up. I go over all of this in detail when we have our strategy session.

As part of the planning process we will go over prop ideas and figure out what we are going to incorporate into your session. I have some props available that have been a big hit with my clients and you are welcome to use them if you would like. In addition feel free to bring any props or accessories that you feel represent your brand. This could include items such as a laptop, books, or even your fur baby. I want to capture the essence of your brand, so any props or accessories that help tell your story are absolutely welcome.

I definitely do both! There is a lot of planning behind the scenes for each branding shoot that I photograph. Once we have determined the story lines for your photos we will plan for a different types of images so that you have a large variety to use for your business. I work hard to get you as many different photos as possible.

The beauty of a personal branding session is that it is completely customized to you and your business. I don’t use same location for everyone. I will work with you to plan the photo storylines and then we will figure out where to shoot the images. I like to give you a lot of variety so I will commonly start out at a home, peerspace, studio, and then also go to an outdoor scene to show you at a café, etc… This will all be worked out during our strategizing session.

After your session you will have the opportunity to review the images and pick the number that is included in the collection you selected. If you'd like to purchase more that is also an option. This way you're getting a chance to pick out the exact images that you love and want to use.

I fully edit and fine tune your branding images for color correction, white balance, density, and also include a light retouch. Because I use professional lighting and guide you through flattering poses throughout your session, the photos you receive will look great and be ready for immediate use.

I am also proficient in photoshop and can do more in-depth retouching if that is something you want. Complex retouching, such as body shaping, can certainly be done, but will incur an additional charge. We can talk more in depth as we plan your session, but overall my goal is to  provide you with photos that you love and are thrilled to use, while at the same time having you look like yourself rather than an overly photoshopped version of yourself.

I am very fast with image delivery. Typically your images will be ready to view in two weeks or less.

Yes, you can use the photos for both personal and professional purposes. You receive a commercial license and are free to use the photos for business purposes. Of course you can also share them personally as well. I also do not require you to credit me as you use the photos, but an occasional tag would be nice! Keep in mind the commercial license does not allow you the rights to sell or distribute the images to another business – in that case they can just contact me directly and we can go from there.

Ideally I recommend that you book 4 to 6 weeks in advance of the scheduled photo session date. This way we have time to strategize, go over what you need for photos/video, secure a location, plan outfits, etc…

Keep in mind that there is a huge range in the talent and professionalism of photographers that advertise themselves as branding photographers. You want to look for someone who takes the time to understand your brand from a business perspective and can translate this understanding into a set of unique photos that truly capture your personality and style. It's also important to feel comfortable and confident with your photographer so you can relax and be yourself during your session.
